Love Your Printer: Easy Printer Care Tips

Many people pay attention to their printers only when the ink has run out or if it refuses to cooperate with their printing activities.  They are either too busy, lack the technical knowledge, or simply feel that it’s not that important to check on their printer regularly.

In fact, when people hear or see the term “Printer Maintenance”, you quickly see their eyes dull and you know that you’ve lost their attention completely.  Hey, we can’t blame you!  It does seem like a very technical and time-consuming thing to do.

Before we lose your attention completely, here are some simple ways you can ensure that your printer is working on optimal performance.  These are things you can do while printing, so you won’t even have to spend that much time on them!

It’s not difficult to keep your printer in top shape. You just need to know what to do!

Update Your Printing Software Regularly

See that notification on your printer asking you to check for updates?  Don’t ignore it.  After all, it’s not going to take too much of your time for your machine to connect to the internet to see if there are any new drivers or software that it needs to run on optimal performance.

Clear Paper Jams – the RIGHT way!

What is the most common problem that you’ll encounter with your printer?  Paper jams.  Yes, it’s those moments when you are in a tug-of-war battle with your printer over a piece of paper.

But your printer is not your enemy, so there’s no point in forcibly yanking that piece of paper from it.  This will only cause you more harm than good and we’re not just talking about your printer, but for you and your budget, too, because this can cause serious damage to your printing device.

ComputerHope.com advises that you need to first remove any loose paper from the loading tray.  Pressing the resume button is always a good idea, since most printers are equipped to eject the jammed paper on its own.

If this doesn’t work, it means that you need to help your printer out.  Start by removing the stuck paper, one sheet at a time.  Once the paper jam is cleared, you’ll need to check if the printer carriage can move freely.

If you are unable to resolve the paper jam from the loading tray, this means that you may need to clear it from the rear of the printer.  You will find some additional steps on how to clear a paper jam the right way in our blog on the 50 Common Printer Problems and How to Fix Them.

Clean It!

Just like your body, your printer also needs regular cleaning to keep it in tip-top shape.  Clean the exterior (or outside) of your printer at least once a week with a damp cloth just to wipe away dust, dirt and other contaminants.

While you’re at it, open the hatch and remove the toner cartridge to clean the gears and rollers.  If this is too complicated for you, use a small vacuum cleaner to remove the dirt and dust from inside with ease.

Store it Well

The location of your printer is important for its performance.  And we’re not just talking about the aesthetics and how it contributes to the overall design of your home office area.  Your printer should be protected from excessive heat or moisture, just like other electronics do.

Make sure that your printer is stored in a stable area to avoid it from falling over.  Make sure to cover it to protect it from dust and other contaminants, along with direct sunlight or moisture.

See? That wasn’t too difficult, was it?

Proper printer maintenance can be achieved if you maintain cleanliness and care when you use it.  These are simple reminders that we have been taught since we were children, so it isn’t rocket science.  The most important thing is that you are mindful with your printer usage and that you take care of your household devices and technology at all times.

Share Your Love for Mother Nature through these Sustainable Printing Tips

In a constant world of change, we strive to adapt to what we need. Manufacturers and big companies, even starting companies always come up with products and ideas to make life easier.  While this adds convenience to our ever day lives, we all know that through these “upgrades” come at a high cost to mother nature.

The most appropriate example is our printing breakthroughs. We become content with the convenience that they bring that we constantly forget to go green.

Presently, printing companies are making it a point to go green. Green printing technology is now on the rise. Here are just a few of the sustainable printing breakthroughs that we have experienced over the past years:

  • Green inks and papers
These are inks and papers that are made with non-hazardous and mother nature-friendly materials.
  • Printers that are energy efficient – These printers use less energy and emits lesser carbon footprints.
  • Techniques that are carbon neutral – Even green inks, papers and printers still have carbon footprints, these techniques are meant to neutralize and lessen it.

Source: Flickr/innovate360 | There are many ways that you can practice sustainable printing! Start by recycling your ink and toner cartridges.

These companies have done their parts, now it’s our turn.  Ask yourself, what can you do to help mother nature?

Here are some sustainable printing tips that can get you started:

  1. Ask if you need to print
Before printing, ask yourself whether what you are printing really needs to be printed.  Can it just be sent electronically to people who needs to see it? If so, don’t print it anymore.
  1. Maximize pages
If you are printing a long document, you don’t have to print the document as it is, especially if you are just going to review the content. You can print in small readable fonts, lessen the margins and make sure you are maximizing the page.
  1. Use two sides
If you are only printing a draft version, you can use double side printing, or you can print on the back side of the past drafts you printed.  This will easily cut your paper use in half.
  1. Print in draft mode
Again, if this is just a draft, you can select “draft mode” or “fast draft” in your printer, this will use less ink and will print faster.
  1. Save paper
Once you print anything, and the back part of the paper is not yet used, save it!

Stack all the “once used” papers. When you need to print another draft, you can use these papers instead of new ones.

To thank you for your continuous support for us, we want to #SharetheLove by giving 2 lucky winners a $100 discount on any InkTonerStore purchase.

These sustainable printing tips are just a few of the things that you can do to step up.

We all need to protect mother nature because it is us who benefits from the resources and beauty we get from her. Let’s all do our part and step up to show more love for mother nature.

3 Free Printables to Help You Boost Your Productivity

In this day and age wherein there is a mobile app for almost everything, you’re probably wondering how a bunch of printable worksheets will actually help you boost your productivity.  It’s simple: there is power in writing things down on paper.

Numerous studies have proven the benefits of writing your thoughts and plans on paper.  Some of the benefits of journaling includes: improved memory, better comprehension of concepts, and improved physical health.  It is also something a habit that many successful people share.

In this blog post, we will be sharing 3 of our favorite free printables that will help you in improving your productivity and bring  you closer to achieving your vision for 2017.

Habit Tracker Printable

Success isn’t something that you achieve overnight.  You need to develop the right skills and attitude to achieve success and stay successful.

This 2017, you should focus on building the RIGHT habits.  Many people often start their new year’s resolutions list by focusing on getting rid of bad habits.  The best way to break a bad habit is to replace it with a good one.

If you have “Stop Smoking” on your list of things to achieve this year, try replacing it with “Develop a Healthier Lifestyle”.  Stop smoking will just be one of the tasks on this list, but you can start by first developing a regular exercise routine and eating healthier meals.  You will eventually quit smoking because you are doing so well at the first 2 that you will be more willing to quit this bad habit.

We love this habit tracker by Clementine Creative, because it’s clean and straightforward.  This free printable habit tracker comes in A4, A5 and US Letter size.  It has 31 day blocks that you can either cross off or color once you have successfully completed the habit-forming activity.  Shade or highlight the months, found at the upper-right hand side of the screen for you to keep track of the month for that sheet.

Daily Productivity Heat Map Printable

Have you noticed how there are certain times in a day when you feel most energetic and productive?  There are certain times or hours when we can accomplish whatever task is on our plate, while during some hours we end up procrastinating.  Guess what, it’s not a coincidence.

As much as it is important to maintain a regular schedule, you need to also consider the specific time of the day when your energy levels are high to increase your productive capacity.

Source: Productive Flourishing | Harness the times when you’re most productive in the day to increase your efficiency and output.

Charlie Gilkey of Productive Flourishing came up with this Daily Productivity Heat Map to help you track when you’re hot and when you’re not.  This will help you monitor your natural rhythm and make the most out of your energy.  This will help you in being more efficient with how you manage your time and energy to increase productivity.

Household Schedule Printable

You need to keep an organized schedule if you want to increase your productivity.  You need to take note of the activities and meetings you will have on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis and work around those hours for other activities.  This will ensure that you are being efficient with your time.

We love this Household Family Schedule from Template.Net because it’s perfect for busy moms who have to consider and adapt to the schedules of pretty much everyone in the household.

Print and post this schedule tracker in a common area for everyone in the household to see or view.  This will ensure that everyone is aware of the activities of the rest of the family, so they can be more mindful of how they manage their time as well.

This helps promote accountability for everyone in your home and it will help in lessening the distractions to your productivity.

3 Reasons Why You Should Print Photos in the Digital Age

Why print photos?  Do people still print photos?  No one prints photos anymore.

These are some of the recommended search terms that came up on Google while I was doing my research on this topic.  For someone who grew up in the age of analog photography, printing pictures is not at all uncommon to me.  In fact, it is something that I think that more people should do.  But we want to give you, our readers, an objective perspective on the topic of printing pictures in the digital age.

Source: Google Images | Gone are the days of good old analog photography, when you needed to keep several rolls of film on standby just to capture the perfect photo.

Here are 3 reasons why you should print your pictures to preserve them:

The Threat of Digital Data Loss

A large majority of our pictures and files that we have are now stored in computers or uploaded unto the cloud.  Facebook, Instagram, and many other applications have made it very simple to take a picture from our mobile devices which will be uploaded instantly on their platform.  The ease by which pictures are taken, stored and shared have made us rely heavily on these platforms to preserve our precious memories.

Vint Cerf, one of the fathers of the internet, advised internet users to begin preserving digital data, such as photographs, or risk losing them forever.  “We stand to lose a lot of our history. If you think about the quantity of documentation from our daily lives which is captured in digital form, like our interactions by email, people’s tweets, all of the World Wide Web, then if you wanted to see what was on the web in 1994 you’d have trouble doing that. A lot of the stuff disappears,” he warned.

The internet is not the only problem.  Computers and hard drives crash all the time.  Smart phones and tablets get lost or destroyed.  “Digital files can never be as secure as something you can hold,” shares one user on Quora.

Lost to the Digital Graveyard

I came across several blogs and articles that talked about how the pictures get buried in the digital graveyard.  The words “buried” and “digital graveyard” were a resounding buzz word in these articles that date back to 2013.

It’s so easy to take and store photos these days that we can generate hundreds of pictures in one day alone.  But what happens after?  What happens after you’ve taken the picture?  Do you upload them to a social media platform?  Do you keep them locked away in your hard drive?  Will you look at those pictures again after a month?

To be perfectly honest, I have so many pictures stored in my computer that I haven’t looked at for a long time.  And even if I do want to look through them, there are now thousands of them so just the thought of going through all those photos is already quite exhausting.

In the days of photographic film, you had to choose the perfect shot otherwise you’d lose that moment forever.  You would invest a lot of care and thought for each photograph, because you had a limited amount of film.  Since it’s now so easy to take pictures, even the most random and irrelevant things get photographed.  Can you just imagine printing a roll of film filled with just your selfies and laying those pictures out on a photo album?  These “fluff” pictures take up a lot of your space and bury the most important pictures in your digital vault.  And the reality is that you never get to look at them anymore.

Print has an “actual” presence

Printing gives life to your pictures.  It’s hard to ignore a picture when it’s mounted on your wall or if it’s in a frame at your desk.  The memory stored in the picture adds character to wherever you put it, which is why many DIY home design articles include personalizing your home by framing your pictures and displaying them in different rooms.

Printed photos are inspiring.  In one of our recent blog posts, we talked about printing inspirational quotes and displaying them in areas of your home where it’s easy to view to give you a daily dose of inspiration.  Photographs have the same – if not better – effect.  Seeing the smiles on the faces of loved ones or having a visual reminder of that one specific memory is heartwarming and inspiring.

Source: Paulding County Area Foundation | Print your pictures and display them at home or at the office to keep you inspired.

You don’t need to print ALL of your pictures.  Just print the ones that you want to preserve and enjoy for a long time.  There are definitely a lot of benefits to print your pictures.  The ones that I have highlighted are just 3 of those that we have stumbled upon on the internet.  But they are also my personal reasons why I like printing my pictures.

Printing Tips to Increase Your Productivity

It’s been 17 days since the start of the new year.  We’re sure that you’re still filled with energy and eager to fulfill all your new year’s goals and plans.  We can’t blame you.  We’re as excited about 2017 as you are!

In our previous blog posts, we featured free printables that would help you organize your life and motivate you throughout 2017.  Now, we’ll focus on helping you increase productivity at home or work by improving the efficiency through these printing tips.

Printing Productivity

If you have a long list of goals that you want to achieve for yourself, then, you need to start focusing on how much effort you are exerting on each task or endeavor.  That’s what productivity is all about.  If you are spending too long on a task or goal and you’re not delivering the ideal output for a certain amount of time, then, you need to stop and rethink your actions.

Your productivity is usually affected by the little details that you don’t pay too much attention to like the amount of ink on your printer or if you have enough paper.  Although these may seem like simple problems, these scenarios will still eat up your time and your ability to deliver results.

Reducing small time-consuming situations such as these, which could be easily avoided through proper planning, will help in improving your overall efficiency and productivity.

Monitor Your Printing Consumption

If you are restocking for your home, you need to consider how much print supplies you are consuming and measure the lifecycle of each of these products.  Track your printer usage by maintaining a logbook or list of documents that you have printed.  Make sure to take note of:

  • The number of pages
  • Type of paper used
  • Color or black and white

Of course, if you want to be obsessive compulsive about it, you could also track the ink levels after you are done printing.  If there is more than one person using the printer, such as in an office setting, you could install a printer monitor or log software that would allow you to do this more efficiently.  But if you’re just monitoring it for home use, a simple sheet of paper would do.

Location, Location, Location.

It is not just about aesthetics.  It’s important to consider where your printer is positioned in your home since there are certain environmental factors that can greatly affect its performance.  You also need to consider putting it in an area where you can easily access it when you’re working, or where the kids can easily print out their schoolwork.  The right printer set-up can do wonders in improving your efficiency with whatever it is that you’re doing, thereby making things get done faster and with just the right effort.

Stock Up on Paper

If you constantly use your printer for work, schoolwork or print activities, then, you should have an awareness of the status of your print supplies.  After all, it’s not difficult to see if your printer ink is running low or if you don’t have enough paper stocked up at home.

Paper is a number one must-have at home.  Make sure that you have basic printing paper, such as legal and letter size bond paper.  It’s always more cost-efficient to buy a ream of paper.  It’s practical to buy several reams of paper, which is good for several months.  After all, paper doesn’t have an expiration date so it doesn’t hurt to stock up.

If you’re thinking, “But I don’t need so much paper now.”  Think of it this way.  Would you really want to wait until it completely runs out before you stock up?  Running to the store unplanned will eat up your time and money. You’ll be spending on gas just to run to the store for this one thing, which you could have prepared for if you had only purchased enough.  Having to rush to the store in the middle of work is also counter-productive and it will throw you off your workflow.

Invest in the Right Ink

It’s not just about buying an ink or toner cartridge for your printer.  You need to make sure that you are buying the right one for your printer!  Here are 5 Tips to in Buying Printing Ink Cartridges to guide you on what you need to consider before making an ink or toner purchase.  Getting it right the first time will save you a lot of time and effort in the future, so educate yourself on what your printer really needs to ensure that it’s running on optimal performance.

Efficiency is a Lifestyle

Your productivity significantly affects your work and life in ways that you just can’t fathom.  If you are thinking that efficient printing practices will give you very minimal results in improving your overall productivity – you’re wrong!

Being efficient is a habit that you need in every aspect of life.  If you can be efficient at a small activity such as printing, this will ripple out to other small activities that you don’t really pay much attention to.  And being efficient in many small activities will help you in being more efficient on a larger scale.

Organize Your Life this 2017 with these FREE Printables

Thinking about the start of a new year is like being an artist staring at a blank canvass or a writer with a blank sheet of paper.  You find a sense of excitement in the endless opportunities that it offers and you can’t wait to start filling it with your thoughts and design.

But before you start planning what to do this 2017, you need to first de-clutter your life.  You need to make room in your life for the opportunities and blessings that you wish to achieve this coming year.  It’s more than just “out with the old and in with the new”, de-cluttering your life means removing anything that’s unnecessary or impeding your progress.

De-cluttering your personal life – your thoughts, emotions, and perceptions – can be quite overwhelming.  The good news is that you can start by organizing the things around you.  Get rid of unnecessary items in your home, organize your work desk, catalog your books.  We’re sure that there is a lot of things that you can start with.

Here are some of our favorite free printables that we hope can help you in organizing your life this 2017:

Printable Calendars

Time is precious.  Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day and 365 days in a year, yet most people will tell you that they “don’t have enough time.”

You can start organizing your life by focusing on time – specifically, your schedule.  If you can map out activities and tasks ahead of time, you will be able to manage your time more efficiently.

Sometimes it can be hard to find a calendar design that you like and there are also those times that you want to be creative and have different designs per month.  Unfortunately, the calendar designs in stores can be limited and you can’t swap or change the designs for each month and this is precisely why printable calendars have become a more popular choice.

Printables for Binders and Planners

Women seem to be more inclined to using binders, and planners to get things organized.  And why not?  They are very useful tools to keeping track of monthly, weekly, and daily activities – not to mention your budget, tasks, and fun stuff like storing keepsakes.

We just love these Home Management Binder printables from TheGraciousWife.com.  We’re sure that moms would love this and it can definitely help them out since moms are some of the best multitaskers around.  The Home Management binder includes inserts for calendar, to-do list, budget, weekly meal planner and more.

If you just want a regular planner, Eliza Ellis is offering free printable planner designs on her blog.  Her printable Irma weekly planners come in 9 layouts and 6 color schemes that you can choose from.

One thing we hate about planners is that some of the pages or inserts just don’t seem appropriate and are left unused.  These printable planner layouts and designs allow you to customize your planner to suit your needs.  It’s also a more environment-friendly option since you can re-use the binder or case of existing planners and simply replace the contents each year.

These are just some of the free printables that we found – and fell in love with – online.  As much as we would like to share all of it, one blog post just wouldn’t be enough.  Thankfully, there’s Pinterest!  Feel free to check our printables board, because we have more printables available there.

And before you start with your printing adventure, it’s important to make sure that your printer is stocked up and in proper shape.  This will save you a lot of time and effort.  InkTonerStore.com has a wide range of ink and toner cartridges to choose from at budget-friendly rates.  You don’t even need to step out of your home to stock up on printing supplies because you can just order on our website and have the items shipped to you.
